This October, GIHOC Distilleries proudly joins the global movement in the fight against breast cancer. Our mission extends beyond crafting fine spirits — we’re passionate about nurturing wellness within our community.

“When detected early, breast cancer is highly treatable. Please schedule your screening and encourage your loved ones to do the same.” — Nana Amma Owusu-Agyeman

Know the Signs

Our Commitment

As part of our awareness month, GIHOC Distilleries hosted a free breast screening exercise for staff and community members. The initiative encouraged regular medical checkups and offered education on preventive care.

Message from GIHOC Physician

Breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer and a leading cause of cancer deaths in women globally.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO, 2022), an estimated 2.3 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year and about 670,000 deaths occur worldwide.

In Ghana, about 70% of cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage, which affects prognosis.

What is breast cancer?

Breast cancer happens when normal breast cells become cancerous and multiply abnormally to form tumors. If left unchecked, the tumor can spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body and can become fatal.

Practical tips
  • Perform a monthly breast self-exam and note any changes.
  • Discuss age- and risk-based screening with a clinician.
  • Seek prompt medical advice if you notice unusual changes.
